Leonard Center Athletic and Recreational Facility – Macalester College

Macalester College prides itself on its academic excellence. The new state of the art Leonard Center Athletic and Recreational Facility was ranked second nationally for the best athletic facility in 2014 among all NCAA Division II and Division III institutions. Superior Painting & Decorating was proud to be awarded the contract for painting and wallcovering finishes.

At exposed truss and deck ceilings in the Field House and Gymnasium, a 2-color paint selection was specified with 2 “M” shaped portions hand-painted in the schools accent colors. The Natatorium required painting of epoxy coatings prior to the pouring of the concrete at pool area to allow access to the high ceiling and wall surfaces. For this application, Superior Painting & Decorating used a 90’ boom lift. Much of the finishing work required use of scaffold or lifts for application of finish coat. Working with General Contractor, McGough Construction, challenges were overcome with the excellent results and quality workmanship needed for this project.

Macalester College – Janet Wallace Fine & Performing Arts Center

The Fall of 2012 “brought down the curtain” for completion of the Janet Wallace Fine & Performing Arts Center Renovation at the Macalester College Campus. As the last building priority of the Step Forward campaign, Superior Painting & Decorating was pleased to have opportunity to have a share in this project which consisted of reusing the existing structure along with the addition of new construction.

Finishes included interior painting of walls, catwalks, and exposed ceiling areas. High performance coatings were applied at ornate steel areas and as finish to Level 5 wall areas. Intumescent coatings were applied at exposed steel of Light Monitors with “Blackout” coatings through-out the Theatre.
